FAQs

What conditions do you treat?

1

I support patients with a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Stress and burnout

  • Anxiety and sleep disturbances

  • Fatigue and low immunity

  • Musculoskeletal pain

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Hormonal imbalance

  • Digestive issues

  • Post surgical recovery support

  • Nervous system dysregulation

Each treatment plan is individualised following a full consultation.

What is acupuncture?

2

Acupuncture is a regulated healthcare therapy involving the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body.

Modern research suggests acupuncture may:

  • Modulate the autonomic nervous system

  • Improve circulation

  • Support immune function

  • Reduce inflammation

  • Influence pain pathways

Acupuncture is recognised by the World Health Organization as a therapeutic intervention for a variety of conditions.

Does acupuncture hurt?

3

Most patients describe acupuncture as painless or only mildly noticeable. The needles are extremely fine, much thinner than injection needles.

You may feel a brief sensation such as heaviness, warmth, or tingling, which often indicates activation of the point.

Many patients feel deeply relaxed during treatment.

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

4

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle, rhythmical hands on therapy designed to encourage fluid movement and support the body’s natural drainage systems.

In my clinic, MLD is used to support:

  • Stress reduction

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Post surgical recovery

  • Fluid retention

  • Immune support

I do not provide lymphoedema management services.

What happens during the first appointment?

5

Your first appointment includes:

  • A detailed consultation covering your health history

  • Discussion of current symptoms and goals

  • Pulse and tongue assessment in acupuncture

  • A personalised treatment plan

  • Your first treatment

Please allow extra time for the initial consultation.

Initial consultation and treatment usually lasts 75 to 90 minutes

  • Follow up sessions are typically 45 minutes

Treatment length may vary depending on your individual needs.

6

How long are appointments?

How many sessions will I need?

7

The number of sessions depends on:

  • How long symptoms have been present

  • The nature and severity of your condition

  • Your overall health

  • Your treatment goals

Acute issues may respond within a few sessions. Chronic conditions often require a course of treatment.

This will be discussed clearly during your consultation.

Is acupuncture safe?

8

Yes. Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a qualified practitioner. I am a member of the Brititsh Acupuncture Council which follow the highest standards of Acupuncture.

I use single use, sterile needles and adhere to strict hygiene and safety protocols.

Side effects are generally mild and may include slight bruising or temporary fatigue after treatment.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. Many acupuncture points are located on the arms and legs, so clothing that allows easy access is helpful.

For MLD and acupuncture sessions, appropriate draping is always used to ensure comfort and privacy.

9

What should I wear?

Is there parking available?

10

Yes. There is free street parking available near the clinic in Southbourne.

If you are travelling from Bournemouth or surrounding Dorset areas, the clinic is easily accessible by car and public transport.

No. I do not provide lymphoedema management services. My focus with Manual Lymphatic Drainage is on stress support, post surgical recovery, and nervous system regulation.

11

Do you treat lymphoedema?

Can acupuncture and MLD be combined?

12

Yes. In many cases, combining acupuncture and Manual Lymphatic Drainage can enhance outcomes, particularly for stress related conditions, fatigue, and burnout.

Your treatment plan will be tailored to your specific needs.
